Veronica’s Story

In September 2019, NALA and An Post asked if one of our students would present an award at the An Post Irish Book Awards. Veronica Poole, stepped up to the challenge.

Veronica agreed to have a film crew follow her journey. Veronica’s tutor, Mary, helped her not only to prepare her speech, she also arranged a visit to a local boutique. No awards night is complete without getting glammed up for the evening!

Veronica was a true pro, from putting pen to paper, to standing on stage with Miriam O’Callaghan and presenting the Bookselling Ireland Non-Fiction Book of the Year, won by Sinéad Gleeson for Constellations.

We are so grateful to Veronica and her family for the generosity and love that they gave to this adventure. Veronica’s story is so brave, personal and heartfelt.

Veronica, we are so proud of you – you are a true inspiration to all of us!

…and then there was more!

In November 2020, the film-crew returned to Coláiste Dhulaigh to catch up with Veronica one year on. With Covid-19 restrictions in place, the college was a lot quiter than usual. Coolock ALS students were still attending for classes, but hardly anyone else was around.

Veronica brings us up to speed with how things have changed over the last twelve months and where her journey is leading her next. No pandemic is going to stop this lady!

Having a chat!

You can watch Veronica and Mary’s Zoom chat about returning to education and some of the classes that take place at Coolock ALS in Coláiste Dhulaigh.
