Physical Activity is great for the body physically but it is also equally important for the mind.

Watch this short video to learn about some of the science of how exercise positively affects our bodies.

Physical activity is any movement of the body that uses energy and increases the heart rate.

Daily activities such as hoovering, washing windows, gardening are examples of physical activities.

They can also include activities such as dancing, brisk walking or cycling.

Some of the benefits of doing physical activities include:

  • help control weight together with a balanced diet
  • increased energy levels
  • reduced the risk of getting heart disease, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancers
  • reduced stress and anxiety
  • improved sleep
  • boosts your mood
  • strengthens your immune system

Recommended Daily Physical Activity

It is recommended that we take a minimum of 30 minutes of physical activity every day, and ideally 60 minutes.

If you cannot do 30 minutes altogether, do 10 minutes at a time.

Make Physical Activity part of your daily routine.

Think of your typical day.

Take a pen and paper. Write down the Physical Activities that you do.

Remember, physical activity is anything that gets you moving – gardening, jogging, walking with a friend, dusting the house –  anything!
